Last year was awful for reading. I started the year so well and read around 20 books before I came home from Spain but I didn't seem to have the chance to do any reading since I came back. I blame this on my lack of travelling! In Spain I was travelling around 2 hours daily on public transport which gave me a lot of time to read. But here I drive if I need to and only have around 30 minutes a day to read. So I'm giving myself a kick and will start trying to read a book a week or every two weeks. To help me with this I've bought some new books (I obviously need an excuse to expand my collection!)
I really enjoyed Giovanna Fletcher's Billy and Me when it came out a few years ago and when I walked into Waterstone's and saw these I had to get them! I'm only missing one of her books now from my collection, but at least I have the main books which correspond with the Christmas version. I'm just hoping that I can get the other book some time in this year.
I've never read any Bernard Cornwell books but I have heard he is a good author. But the main reason I bought this book is because a couple of years ago I bought the Pale Horseman which turns out to be the sequel to this. So a perfect excuse to buy another book right?
This is one that I bought as a sort of mystery book if you will. I wanted to try something a little different and the blurb enticed me enough to pick it up and get it. I just hope that it doesn't turn out to be a book I'm really not interested in!
And finally, I Am Malala. After reading In Order to Live by Yeonmi Park I needed something with a similar feel. I'd never read a biographical sort of political text before and I loved it. I knew that this one had been out a while but I thought now was a good time to get it. I have actually read this one already (woops!) so I will be giving a full review on that soon!
So these few books should keep me going for a while but I am definitely determined to smash my goal of 35 books this year with the Goodreads challenge! If any of you are taking part I would love to hear your goals and what sort of books you are going to be reading.
Hasta la fuego
